This is the largest wine-producing area of the Mâconnais region, forming a triangle between the points of Tournus, Cluny and Mâcon. The variety of soils and micro-climates enable the production of a vast range of typical Mâcon-villages wines. These vines are located on chalky, clay slopes.
In this part of southern Burgundy, the vines occupy a busy landscape of little hills and valleys that look as tough they have been painted with a water-colorist's brush. This charming landscape was celebrated by the poet Lamartine, one of its native sons.
