As is typically the case this is much more interesting than its Vougeot stable mate with a softly wooded nose of wet stone, various white floral influences and plenty of ripe citrus. There is excellent punch to the notably more mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess good richness and volume before terminating in a delineated, balanced and notably dry finish that evidences an interesting note of almond.

Here too there is a note of pain grillé that serves as a backdrop for the layered nose of spiced pear, lavender, rose petal and apple. There is impressive intensity to the precise, clean and very crisp light to middle weight flavors that culminate in a balanced and bone dry finish. I really like the sense of energy and this is much better than what one typically finds in villages level Beaune whites, and as such it's worth considering.

Editor's Choice. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, this wine is all about fresh, vibrant fruit. Limes, Meyer lemons, gooseberries, Asian pears and something tropical, like papayas, all mingle together. Aging on the lees, which is a popular intervention in many unoaked white wines, gives additional notes of cream and sourdough. — S.H. (5/1/2012)

PINOT NOIR FINALIST. Excellent. Highly recommended.

Young, with a mix of generous boysenberry and oak in a complex, layered effort, gaining a pleasing melted black licorice aftertaste and letting the oak ease its way into the heart of the wine.

The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Les Damodes has everything the Corvees Paget doesn’t. Sensual layers of fruit caress the palate in this super-refined Nuits. Gentle floral and spice notes develop in the glass, adding depth and volume. Clean veins of underlying minerality frame the exceptional finish. This is a standout. Pierre Vincent used 50% whole clusters here. This parcel was planted 40 years ago with a selection of pinot fin. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. This is stunning set of wines from Pierre Vincent and Domaine de la Vougeraie. It is impossible to miss the attention to detail at this impeccably run domaine. No expense is spared. It takes 80 people to work the vineyards during harvest and another 20 in the cellar to take it from there. Production in 2010 was of course down significantly as it was everywhere else. Yields came in at 24 hectoliters per hectare for the Pinot and 29 for the Chardonnay. Vincent used between 30-80% whole bunches, depending on the wine. Readers who want to learn more might want to check out my video interview with Pierre Vincent on www.erobertparker.com. I will report on the domaine’s 2009s in the April issue.

The 2010 Vougeot Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot emerges from a monopole site. The Clos Blanc is marked by its brilliant aromatic lift and energy. The aromas and flavors flesh out nicely to the deep, creamy finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018.

For now let me just say the 2009 Musigny is one of the wines of the vintage.

The 2010 Vougeot Les Cras is a gorgeous, mid-weight wine laced with sweet red cherries, mint and crushed rocks. This is a decidedly focused, energetic wine with notable tension and wiriness. Saline notes mark the clean, bracing finish. Vincent notes that there was a high incidence of shot berries in this parcel. The Cras was made with 50% whole bunches. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. The 2010 Beaune is rounder and softer than the Cotes de Beaune but with plenty of the trademark 2010 acidity and minerality to back things up. Lemon, crushed rocks and spices wrap around the rich, generous finish. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018.
