Beaune 1er Cru “Clos du Roi” Reviews

Score: 93 | November 1, 2017 | Wine Enthusiast

Red-berry fruits dominate this already delicious wine. Allied with the acidity and the toasty wood aging, it is balanced while, of course, still young. It has potential, rich with tannins and with fine fruits. The wine is structured, needing time.

This is a juicy wine, packed with red fruits. It has acidity along with an edge of tannins. The attractive fruitiness suggests the wine will develop quickly.  —R.V.

Pale medium-red. Exotic, inviting scents of red cherry, orange zest, truffle and smoky underbrush. Fat, sweet and rich, with a rather animal, syrah-like quality to its dark fruit flavors. Not particularly delineated but there's plenty of substance here, and adequate energy. Finishes with a soft dusting of tannins. This is already fun to dirnk.

A rich, plummy Beaune, this is filled with juicy sweetness in the middle, restricted by smoky tannins in the end. Those coffee-scented tannins remain tender and gentle, creating a mouthwatering finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.

An unusually complex nose for the appellation offers up notes of ripe upper and lower register red berry fruits and warm earth where the latter element can also be found on the rich, full-bodied and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a delicious and solidly persistent finish. A lovely Clos du Roi. 2013+
