Beaune 1er Cru “Clos du Roi” Reviews

Score: 89 | November 1, 2012 | Wine Enthusiast
With its layers of wood and sweet fruit, this is both well textured and rich. It’s balanced with acidity, giving the wine a tighter edge while also emphasizing the ripe fruit. Keep for a year, but this can also be consumed now.
Score: 90 | October 1, 2012 | Wine & Spirits
A rich, plummy Beaune, this is filled with juicy sweetness in the middle, restricted by smoky tannins in the end. Those coffee-scented tannins remain tender and gentle, creating a mouthwatering finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.
Score: 88-89 | February 1, 2012 | The Wine Advocate
The 2010 Beaune Clos du Roi is gorgeous for its soft, round fruit and accessible personality. Sweet red cherries, crushed flowers and tobacco wrap around the delicate, somewhat fleeting finish. This is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018.

This is noticeably riper with a layered combination of red berry fruit liqueur scents and warm earth nuances. There is fine richness and volume to the supple, round and sappy medium-bodied flavors that possess good mid-palate fat, all wrapped in an ever-so-mildly austere finish. Very solid quality here.

An unusually complex nose for the appellation offers up notes of ripe upper and lower register red berry fruits and warm earth where the latter element can also be found on the rich, full-bodied and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a delicious and solidly persistent finish. A lovely Clos du Roi. 2013+
