Juicy, expansive and generous in cherry cola, orange peel and pomegranate, this is a profoundly rich, round and rewarding wine—a showcase of the varietal that’s hearty in tannin and oak but ultimately balanced in profile.

Coming from some top sites in Burgundy and in California, the 2016 Pinot Noir #3 is a beautiful effort that offers incredibly Burgundian aromas and flavors, yet is distinctly Californian on the palate. This beautiful effort gives up complex red fruits, forest floor, spice, and damp earth-like aromas. These carry over to the palate, where the wine is medium-bodied, seamless, and silky, with plenty of sweet California fruit balanced by terrific acidity, silky tannins, and a great finish. While I can struggle with these type of cuvées blended across very different regions, this is the real deal and is a brilliant Pinot Noir. It's going to evolve for 10-15 years.

The producer unusually mixes grapes from both California and Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits in this red. It’s deeply expressive in tones of licorice and lavender. Powerfully structured tannins provide support to a dense, velvety texture as waves of dark cherry and boysenberry impart richness.

Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Pleasant scent of black cherry, spice, herbs and beechwood. Lighter styled, with earthy flavors of cherry and raspberry, and an array of savory spices and herbs. The savory and fruit components compliment each other and the wine picks up interest over time in the glass. Drinking well now, with easygoing, fine-grain tannins, and a bright, uplifting finish.

The JCB 2010 No. 3 Red Wine is a blend of French and California Pinot Noir. The color is dark garnet, and the nose is spicy and smoky displaying notions of underbrush and red cherries. Dominated by Pinot Noir fruit characteristics, it is round, pure and velvety textured with loads of kirsch, plums and black cherries. This medium to full-bodied, elegant yet authoritatively styled effort merits serious attention. It can be drunk over the next 5-6 years.
