A densely packed offering, with a muscular core of black currant, fig and blackberry reduction flavors interwoven with warm loam, roasted cedar and sweet tobacco accents. Solidly grippy too; needs a little time to stretch out. For fans of the amped-up style. Best from 2024 through 2035.

This has floral lift from a violet edge, with a fruit core of raspberry and blackberry focused by a racy element. Shows bramble for grip as well as good energy through the finish, where a hint of the vintage's heat pokes in along the edges. Drink now through 2033.

This nononsense, nicely concentrated wine offers a firm, tannic texture, good blackberry, black olive and sage flavors and a medium body. It comes off a bit lean and edgy but will taste great with a steak. Or wait for it to mellow with some time in cool storage. Best from 2027. —J.G.
This is a pale, vinous sparkler, focused by scents of spicy chamomile and high-toned lime-pith bitterness. It lasts on notes of salt, lemons and white cherries, a broad wine with tension and length.
Black and ripe, this wine’s candied-cherry flavors have a Port-like sweetness, while there’s enough acidity to keep it juicy. “Bottom notes give it depth and resonance,” said James Conley of Keen’s Steakhouse, while others pointed to the walnut scents of oak, and highlights of thyme and rosemary.
