Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon Reviews

Score: 94 | December 31, 2022 | Wine Enthusiast

This is a sleek, concentrated and quietly powerful wine. Subtle, complex fruit, spice and savory components meld beautifully from the first sniff to the flavors and the lingering finish. Black cherries, black olives, a sprig of rosemary and a dash of dark chocolate are a winning recipe. Best from 2025–2035.

Aromas of baked cherry, paprika and tarragon. Full-bodied with lovely, savory complexity. Creamy tannins. Ground spice and roasted herbs blend on the palate. Succulent fruit. Nicely composed. Drink or hold.

Cooler climate-like notes currants, green herbs, tobacco, and chocolate emerge from the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon District Collection Yountville, a medium to full-bodied, nicely balanced, structured Cabernet. The tannins are more obvious here, so give it 3-4 years in the cellar.

This is a tannic, thick and deeply concentrated wine, robust in dried herb, jammy black cherry and cocoa powder. It packs a memorable punch, the savory earthiness providing contrast with subdued complexity. -Virginie Boone

A nice, sleek, focused version, with a pure beam of cassis and cherry reduction flavors, flanked by sweet toast, anise and a flash of singed bay leaf. Subtle tugs of mineral and earth through the finish augment the fruit nicely. Drink now through 2030. -JM

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon District Collection Yountville comes from a single vineyard off State Lane and was brought up in 38% new French oak. Pretty, floral notes of sappy herbs, spring flowers, iron, chocolate, and more red fruits define the bouquet, and it’s beautifully concentrated and seamless on the palate. It’s another winner.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Yountville is another forward, racy wine in this range. Juicy dark cherry, cedar, spice and floral notes are nicely lifted in this attractive, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink it over the next handful of years.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon District Collection Yountville is one of the standouts in the District Collection wines. It’s a balanced, complete, beautiful wine that gives up lots of currant and black raspberry fruits as well as more and more spice, hints of toasty oak, and licorice aromas and flavors. Rounded, textured, and, again, beautifully balanced, drink it over the coming 15 years.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Yountville District Collection has a boisterous baked berries, mulberries and black forest cake-scented nose with plenty of spices, dusty earth and licorice. Full-bodied, rich, spicy and bold in the mouth, it has a long finish.

A rich red, this is structured and firm in the middle, then it loosens up to a touch of sweetness in the end. There's interesting detail in the tannins, yielding the scent of tobacco and the feel of crushed stone. The flavors are smoky with oak, broad and juicy, built for eggplant roasted with ground lamb.

Yeasty, like baked bread, this thick, leathery and peppery wine is surrounded by a wealth of burly tannins. The oak well integrated, it will nonetheless benefit from further aging to coax more of its dark raspberry and blackberry fruit. Cellar through 2020. — V.B.

A gutsy, rustic style, with raw, chewy tannins and a strong wood presence giving this the initial impression of an overly tannic effort. With time, however, the ripeness of the fruit and tannins should make this quite pleasing.  –JL
