Jean-Claude Boisset Reviews

This has the earthen cool of a cave, its bright red cherry flavors shaded toward dark rose and smoky tannins. Quiet rather than flashy, this has enough flavor concentration and spicy tannins to develop over the next several years.

Corseted by oak, this is a full-bore, generous wine for the vineyard, but as the black-walnut scent of oak dissipates with air, a complex and layered Vosne-Romanee begins to emerge. The fruit feels plump in the center, surrounded by oak and touches of Brett. But there's air in the tannins and the fruit, allowing some transparency, predicting the elegance this may attain with age.

A pungent nose mixes notes of mild reduction, wood and a distinct resin character. There is good punch and detail to the delicious middle weight flavors that possess a refreshing, clean and dry finish of moderate depth and length where the wood found on the nose resurfaces. This is crisp and brisk and though it could easily be enjoyed now I would suggest cellaring it for 2 to 3 years to allow a bit more depth to develop. That said, if you’re going to try a bottle young I would advise decanting it for 20 minutes or so first. 88/2016+

Supple, silky and fat in its ripeness of fruit, this is slightly raisined in the aroma and touches on butterscotch sweetness in the flavor. While it sits heavy in the middle, the finish is long and fragrant. Give this time to meld.

This wine feels cool and elegant, with the silky texture and floral spice of Chambolle. The fruit contrasts raspberries with rosemary-scented tannins, the herbal character winning out for now. Cellar it to let the fruit evolve.

This single-vineyard wine is a showcase of ripeness—fruity and smooth with great plum and wild strawberry flavors. It’s intensely structured and dense on the palate, however, making it a wine for aging. Drink from 2016.

This is a youthful, fruity wine with crisp yellow-fruit and citrus flavors, with a toastiness from wood aging. Sourced from Saint-Aubin, it has a cool, fresh feel that complements its pristine fruitiness. It’s for drinking soon, but will also improve with age through 2021.
