JCB by Jean-Charles Boisset Reviews

Score: 90 | February 15, 2017 | Pinot File

Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Pleasant scent of black cherry, spice, herbs and beechwood. Lighter styled, with earthy flavors of cherry and raspberry, and an array of savory spices and herbs. The savory and fruit components compliment each other and the wine picks up interest over time in the glass. Drinking well now, with easygoing, fine-grain tannins, and a bright, uplifting finish.

This is a massively dense, extracted and dry wine, entirely varietal and brooding in style. Tobacco and leather form its core, with the fruit elusive and pushed backward. Smoky oak penetrates the thick walls of tannin, forming a combustible, lengthy finish.  — V.B.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon JCB No. 1 is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Oakville Ranch and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot. Sadly, there are only 101 cases of this fabulous wine. Aromas of lead pencil shavings, chocolate-infused expresso, crème de cassis and blackberries along with some barrique smells emerge from this full-bodied, dramatic, flamboyant 2012. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.
