N°1 Cabernet Sauvignon Reviews

Score: 96-99+ | January 31, 2020 | JebDunnuck.com

Not yet bottled, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon JCB #10 shows the quality of the vintage and is a magical wine in the making. As with the 2017, it’s a blend of three different vineyards (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) and is resting in 55% new French oak. It has remarkable purity and freshness as well as full-bodied richness, ripe, sweet tannins, and classic blue fruits, tobacco, and earthy, sappy herb-like aromatics. The vintage can at times lack some mid-palate depth, but this is concentrated, balanced, and just a stunning looking barrel sample.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon JCB #1 is made in a prettier, more elegant style, yet it still packs plenty of oomph and richness. Coming from the west side of St. Helena and aging in 60% new barrels. It offers a terrific bouquet (blue fruits, violets, tobacco, and mint) as well as full-bodied richness and depth, terrific tannin quality, and flawless balance. It’s a beautiful barrel sample.

A barrel sample of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon expected to age in 60% new French oak, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon No. 1 is deep garnet-purple in color and comes bounding out of the glass with bold, expressive blackberries, cassis, warm plums and tobacco leave notes with wafts of black olives, underbrush and rose hip tea. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has loads of fresh black and red fruits with fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with loads of earthy sparks.
