Elizabeth Spencer Winery Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast Reviews

Score: Sonoma Coast Top Selection | March 14, 2024 | The Wine Merchant/California Collection

Another strong performer from the Elizabeth Spencer winery, sourced this time from long-term partner grower Hendricks Vineyard among other top Sonoma Coast sites. “Very fresh and inviting on the nose: raspberry, fresh cut flowers, black plum, with fruity crunch and real charm,” the judges said. “Some smoke and meat and tobacco notes on the palate, elegant oak, juicy wild strawberries and great length. One for the Burgundy lovers, this is classy, elegant, and restrained – a stunning Pinot Noir.”

Dusky tones of grilled plums, redwood forest and balsam fill the aromas of this full-bodied, ultrasmooth wine. Very ripe dried-fruit and dark chocolate flavors take over the palate.

This wine’s rich, cherry crush of fruit is in the youthful grip of its tea-like tannins, lasting in notes of cherry skins and the peppery warmth of oak. There’s complexity in the tannins, in scents of tree bark and leaves, and in their grand texture. A steakhouse pour, this will benefit from a year in the cellar. — Reviewed by Joshua Greene
