Domaine de la Vougeraie Reviews

Score: 94 | February 7, 2024 | Wine Spectator

Expressive, from the effusive aromas of rose, sandalwood, wild strawberry and cherry to the silky texture and the aftertaste of floral, fruit, spice and mineral influences. Harmonious, alluring and complex, this is hard to resist now, yet all indications suggest this has excellent aging potential. Best from 2027 through 2043.

Score: 95 | February 7, 2024 | Wine Spectator

An intense red, this exudes macerated cherry, strawberry, graphite and floral flavors wrapped in toasty oak. While forthcoming, this is underscored by a muscular structure, with dense tannins shoring up the fruit and savory elements on the long aftertaste. Best from 2028 through 2047.

Score: 93 | February 7, 2024 | Wine Spectator

A sleek, intense red hallmarked by a beam of pure cherry flavors. While the cherry and red berry fruit, spice and stony mineral elements are locked up by the muscular structure, this is long and resilient on the finish. Best from 2028 through 2045.

Score: 93 | February 7, 2024 | Wine Spectator

A spicy red, this exudes cherry, sandalwood, vanilla and floral flavors, with an underlying vein of minerality. Bracing and vigorous, with midpalate intensity and a punchy aftertaste that expands for at least a minute. Best from 2027 through 2042.

Score: 95 | February 7, 2024 | Wine Spectator

Fragrant and supple in texture, exuding wild strawberry, cherry, rose, sandalwood and cardamom aromas and flavors. Elegant in feel, with ample tannins for support and a vibrant, extensive aftertaste. Harmonious and charming, yet the length of the finish is what defines its pedigree. Best from 2027 through 2045.

Score: 88-91 | January 10, 2024 | Burghound

A ripe, fresh and expressive nose freely offers up its combination of black cherry, earth, anise and floral top notes. Here too the vibrant and attractively textured flavors are not especially concentrated though they do display slightly more minerality on the dusty, youthfully austere and balanced finale. This is a refined Pommard but a Pommard nonetheless so at least some patience will be necessary.

Score: 88-91 | January 10, 2024 | Burghound

An overtly sauvage-inflected nose is comprised by notes of forest floor and smoky red and dark pinot fruit scents. The delicious and vibrant if only moderately dense middleweight flavors conclude in a markedly rustic, robust and youthfully austere finale that is persistent if slightly warm. This is very Gevrey in character and a wine that's going to require at least some patience.

Score: 92-95 | January 10, 2024 | Burghound

A wonderfully spicy broad-ranging nose features pure notes of wild red currant, leather, earth and a hint of wood influence. The delicious, vibrant and muscular medium weight plus flavors possess a beguiling mid-palate texture while exuding a subtle bead of minerality on the balanced, lingering and youthfully austere finale. This is excellent though a wine destined for long-term keeping.

Score: 92-95 | January 10, 2024 | Burghound

There is ample earth character to the markedly floral-scented nose of various red berries, soft wood and a hint of smoked game. The beautifully textured, if not particularly concentrated middleweight flavors possess excellent vibrancy as well as focused power that seems to build on the beautifully long finish that really tightens up as it sits on the palate. This is a deceptive wine in that it seems a bit light but delivers superb flavor authority.

Score: 94-97 | January 10, 2024 | Burghound

An admirably subtle touch of wood serves as a backdrop for the exuberantly floral-infused and perfumed nose that offers up notes of exotic spice, poached plum and jasmine tea. The equally tautly muscular yet refined and lilting flavors are blessed with excellent punch and power while exhibiting a pungent minerality on the hugely long built-to-age finish. This refined effort is both stylish and very classy.

Score: 88-90 | January 10, 2024 | Burghound

Moderately firm reduction pushes the underlying fruit to the background. More interesting are the rich, punchy and appealingly textured medium-bodied flavors that possess a more sophisticated texture that carries over the dusty and moderately austere finale that also comes up somewhat short. I again suspect that this will better harmonize once it is in bottle.

Score: 89-92 | January 10, 2024 | Burghound

This is also agreeably airy with spicier aromas of pepper and floral-suffused black cherry and a vague hint of the sauvage. Like the La Justice the middleweight flavors possess a refined texture as well as notably more minerality that adds a sense of lift to the dusty, serious, compact and chiseled finish where a touch of austerity slowly emerges. This is excellent for its level and a wine that should repay up to a decade of keeping.

Score: 89-90 | January 10, 2024 | Burghound

A more elegant and airier nose reflects aromas of various red berries, spice and a floral top note. The much more refined if not especially dense flavors also possess good energy as well as very good detail on the dusty, youthfully austere and harmonious finale. Lovely and a wine that could be enjoyed young if desired.

Score: 90-92 | January 10, 2024 |

An elegant, spicy and very pretty, even perfumed, nose is comprised by notes of spiced tea, earth, red and dark currant and a very subtle application of wood. The refined, vibrant and utterly delicious middleweight flavors exude evident minerality on the compact, youthfully austere and much better-balanced finale. Lovely and built-to-age.

Score: 91-93 | January 10, 2024 | Burghound

Like the Les Cras, this too is firmly reduced and revealing nothing on the nose at present. The racy and more refined, if slightly less concentrated, medium-bodied flavors also brim with minerality on the balanced, long and less overtly austere finale though there is a trace. Lovely.

Score: 91-94 | January 10, 2024 | Burghound

More evident wood influence is present on the beautifully layered aromas of red and dark cherry, forest floor, spice and pretty floral nuances. The rich, moderately concentrated and palate soaking medium-bodied flavors display focused power on the firm, serious and built-to-age finale. This is excellent and well-worth a look provided you intend to cellar it for at least 5 or so years first.

Score: 93 | August 31, 2023 |

Smooth and charming, showing coffee, toffee, spice and citrus flavors, this white reveals a complex and delicate, almost creamy, texture, while the bright structure keeps this defined and long on the finish. Drink now through 2027.

Score: 93 | August 31, 2023 | Wine Spectator

Enlivened by bracing acidity, this white delivers lemon-lime, hazelnut, mineral and buttered pastry flavors. Shows tension, yet the balance seems to tip to the tart side. Best from 2024 through 2028.

Score: 92 | May 31, 2023 | Wine Spectator

An elegant, subdued red, offering black cherry, black currant, violet and sweet spices. Gaining depth from smoke and mineral hints, this is balanced and fades gracefully on the lingering finish. Drink now through 2032. - Bruce Sanderson

Score: 92 | May 31, 2023 | Wine Spectator

A rich style, featuring luscious black cherry, blackberry and violet flavors. Soft and enticing, with fine balance and dark fruit echoing on the finish, along with sweet spices. Drink now through 2035. - Bruce Sanderson

Score: 93 | January 2, 2023 | Wine Spectator - Web Only 2013

Toasty and leesy, with generous minerality underlying apple, lime and citronella aromas and flavors. Sleek and well-defined, with a vibrant aftertaste of citrus, orchard fruit, stone and spices. Best from 2025 through 2037.

Score: 92-94 | November 1, 2022 | Vinous

The 2021 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from three plots. It takes time to unfurl on the nose, eventually offering citrus fruit, popcorn and hints of Mirabelle. The palate is balanced with an attractive, slightly waxy texture. It shows fine depth with the mineralité eventually surfacing with aeration. Afford this three or four years in bottle.

Score: 93-95 | November 1, 2022 | Vinous

The 2021 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is slightly more oxidative in style compared to the Bâtard-Montrachet, with grilled walnut and a subtle florlike scent emerging with time. The palate is balanced with a vibrant opening. It has a little more horsepower than the Bâtard-Montrachet and a spicier finish. This gains intensity in the glass and does eventually overtake the Bâtard.

Score: 91 | May 31, 2022 | Wine Spectator

Bright cherry and raspberry fruit flavors hold court in this light-bodied red, which is firm and persistent, gathering accents of earth and tomato leaf as this delivers a long finish. Best from 2024 through 2038. 385 cases made, 24 cases imported. — BS

Score: 90 | April 1, 2018 | Wine & Spirits

A powerful and serious red Burgundy, this is a blend from two parcels in Gilly-lès-Citeaux, near the domaine’s base in Vougeot, and two parcels in Beaune. It layers rose scents and flavors of cranberry and anise over substantial tannins, the structure sophisticated and firm.

Score: 93 | May 31, 2017 | Wine Spectator

Black cherry and toasty vanilla aromas and flavors are the hallmarks of this muscular red. Hints of tobacco and chocolate linger. The firm structure begs for patience.

Score: 90 | May 31, 2017 | Wine Spectator

This is supple and spicy, with flavors of vanilla and sweet baking spices framing the strawberry and currant fruit. Shows light touches of earth and mineral as this finishes with a chalky sensation. Elegant.

This enticing white, offering apple, lime, floral and mineral aromas and flavors, with a touch of oak spice, is balanced, with moderate length. Drink now through 2018. –BS

Score: 87 | June 11, 2015 | Burghound

Soft notes of petrol sit atop the mostly floral and white orchard fruit scents. The rich, round and very generously proportioned flavors are forward o the point of being almost soft and this easy-to-like effort should drink well immediately.
