Chambolle-Musigny Reviews

Score: 88-90 | January 10, 2024 | Burghound

Moderately firm reduction pushes the underlying fruit to the background. More interesting are the rich, punchy and appealingly textured medium-bodied flavors that possess a more sophisticated texture that carries over the dusty and moderately austere finale that also comes up somewhat short. I again suspect that this will better harmonize once it is in bottle.

From eight different parcels including 20% whole bunch with some Premier Cru fruit, the 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Village has an attractive, well-defined bouquet with brambly red fruit, white pepper and a touch of tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, cohesive, fine build in the mouth towards a lightly spiced finish with a slight gamey aftertaste. This should age well in bottle.

The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny Village includes two new vineyards compared to last year from Les Gruenchers and les Fremiets. It has an attractive bouquet, nicely detailed with wilted rose petals infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is fresh and attractive with crisp, red cherry and strawberry fruit, the 40% new oak a little conspicuous towards the finish, though I think that will be assimilated with 2-3 years in bottle.

Bright, dark red. Reticent aromas of raspberry, mocha and minerals suggest a powerful wine. Concentrated and saline on the palate, with high-pitched flavors of crunchy red berries accented by pepper and spices. Finishes firmly tannic but not hard. An excellent village wine in the making.
