Private Reserve Pinot Noir Reviews

Score: 96 | October 24, 2023 | The Wine Independent

Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2021 Private Reserve Pinot Noir charges out of the glass with rambunctious notes of Morello cherries, black raspberries, and mulberries leading to touches of rhubarb crumble, wild strawberries, and underbrush plus a hint of violets. The medium to full-bodied palate is bursting with electric red and black berry flavors, supported by fine-grained tannins and well-knit freshness, finishing long and minerally.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Chateau Buena Vista has a medium ruby color and a nose of cranberry sauce, rhubarb and pomegranate with touches of tree bark, tangerine peel, violets, laurel and earth. The medium-bodied palate features amaro-driven fruits, a soft frame and great freshness with a spicy finish. 7,776 cases produced.

Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Pinot Noir Private Reserve has a very pretty nose of potpourri and rose hips with a core of cranberries, Bing cherries and raspberry leaves plus a touch of underbrush. The palate is medium-bodied and elegantly played with a solid frame of grainy tannins and oodles of freshness supporting the perfumed red berry flavors, finishing with an herbal lift.

This is the ripest wine of the three with notes of plum, dark raspberry, tea and discreet spice nuances. There is also more volume and mid-palate concentration to the medium-bodied flavors that possess an appealingly seductive mouth feel, all wrapped in a dusty, mouth coating and ever-somildly warm finish. I like the complexity but some may find the level of warmth to be borderline. Note that this too could easily be enjoyed now even though it should reward a few years of bottle age.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Private Reserve is a limited production cuvée of 500 cases. It reveals a deep plum/ruby color, sweet fruit, and the most expansive, intense palate impression of these Pinots. Abundant notes of black cherries, forest floor and earth are present in this medium to full-bodied, beautifully pure, seductive Pinot Noir. The star of this Pinot trilogy, it should drink well for 5-6 years.
