Les Grandes Mises, Saint-Amour

Les Grandes Mises, Saint-Amour bottle

We all recognise that this most Northern Cru bears a name which is gentle to the ear and to the heart. It is the wine of poets and lovers. If it did not exist, life would be a little less charming. The wine is named after the village of Saint Amour. Before that, a long time ago during Gallo-Roman times, a centurion named Amor with the Theban Legion, was stationed in the Valais region of Switzerland and was martyred for his Christian faith. In all evidence, the ways of lovers, with their pleasures and sorrows, are rarely easy.

Bright violet. Fresh and energetic on the nose and the palate, displaying sappy red fruit and floral pastille qualities and a hint of musky herbs. Sappy and precise, picking up hints of licorice and allspice as the wine opens up. Fine-grained tannins build slowly on a long, incisive finish that emphatically echoes the mineral note.
  • Winemaking

The fermentation maceration lasted 16 days with pumping-over and a racking, before pressing in October both to obtain color and to extend the fermentation. The wine was aged in vat on its lees for 15 months.

  • Nose

Delicate nose with dominant aromas of black fruit and peony.

  • Palate

Agreeable freshness with soft tannins. supple texture and quite long on the finish.
