Les Grandes Mises, Côte de Brouilly

Les Grandes Mises, Côte de Brouilly bottle

The vineyard, situated totally on the steep slopes of Mount Brouilly is at 1,312 feet and faces South-West. It is on granite and very hard schist, of blue colour referred to ask “diorites”. Mount Brouilly is a former volcano dating back to the Primary era. A characteristic mineral terroir, associated with a long maceration and oak ageing reveals a remarkable wine.

Bright violet. Intensely perfumed aromas of fresh red berries, potpourri, incense and smoky minerals; a peppery note adds spicy lift. Sweet and seamless on the palate, offering juicy red and dark berry flavors along with suggestions of spicecake and candied rose. Shows very good clarity and solid punch on a long, incisive finish framed by silky, harmonious tannins.
  • Winemaking

The wine was then put in barrel by gravity. Malolactic fermentation then occurred in 6-year old barrels to conserve the mineral character of the appellation and soften the tannins. Oak Burgundy barrels of French origin, mainly from the Troncais forest undergo a medium “firing” so as not to “mark” the wine too much and give a light toasted style. The wine was then aged for 8 months in oak.

  • Nose

Discreet aromas of violets and peonies.

  • Palate

Lightly smoked, with a fine balance of silky tannins and red-berry fruits with an excellent long finish.
