Chablis Premier Cru “Vaucoupin” bottle

The last official premier cru list was established in 1986. There are 79 named plots covering about 1483 acres. The Chablis producers decided to regroup them to promote only 17. The vineyards producing premiers crus are located on both sides of the Serein River around the villages of Chablis, Fontenay, Maligny, Chichee, La Chapelle-Vaupelteigne, Courgis, Fleys and Beines.

The named plot occupies a surface of 67 acres on the right side of the Serein River, close to the village of Chichée.

Subtle pear, hazelnut and lemon shimmer on this wine's shy nose. The palate brings in roundness and ripeness, think luscious Mirabelle with a touch of honey. Juicy and ripe lemon pervades all with its freshness while a smooth texture adds a balmy background. The wine has lovely harmony and balance. ANNE KREBIEHL MW
