The Aristocrat

The Aristocrat bottle

Self-proclaimed “The Count of Buena Vista,” Agoston Haraszthy was a vivacious pioneer whose love affair with grape-growing started in his homeland of Hungary. Born into nobility, The Count grew up amidst famed vineyards and orchards that had been in his family for centuries. The title of Count followed Haraszthy to the new world where he set out to bring modern viticulture techniques to the winery he founded in 1857, Buena Vista. The Aristocrat honors The Count’s noble birth and the work he did in establishing the Buena Vista Vinicultural Society as California’s first premium winery.

The 2013 Proprietary Red The Aristocrat from Napa has a beautiful nose of crème de cassis, licorice and floral notes. It is full-bodied with sweet tannin, a multilayered mouthfeel and impressive texture and length. This is a beauty and, while accessible already, should age effortlessly for 15-20 or more years.
  • Location

The Aristocrat is a Red Wine harvested from vineyards in Napa Valley’s Calistoga AVA.

  • Winemaking

The blend of Valdiguie, picked from a pre-prohibition vines just off of Picket Road at the base of the Vaca Mountains, Charbono from one of the last remaining Charbono vineyards in Napa Valley and Petit Verdot was aged in separate lots for 16-18 months in 100% French oak, 15% new. The wine was then racked, blended and lightly fined before bottling.

  • Palate

Intriguing aromas of blueberry, black cherry and plum lead to flavors of dark chocolate, cassis and a touch of violet. The wine is well structure with integrated tannins and a long, smooth finish.
