Gevrey-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin bottle

Gevrey-Chambertin: a world famous village in the heart of the Côte de Nuits; well known for its great red wines, perfect examples of Pinot Noir complexity and balance.

The intense aromas of this Gevrey-Chambertin call for rich dishes such as a saddle of lamb, boeuf bourguignon or coq au vin, and ripe cheeses.

This is a classic Gevrey with its wonderfully fresh and exuberant nose of airy and mineral-inflected dark berry fruit aromas that are cut with notes of underbrush and earth. There is better than average detail on the attractively textured medium weight flavors where the supporting tannins carry only a trace of rusticity. This refreshing and moderately firm effort does display a touch of wood on the long finish but it's not enough to affect the texture.
  • Winemaking

Vinification in wooden vats followed by maturing in barrels for 14 to 16 months (20% new oak).

  • Nose

Distinguished and complex, slightly woody, with hints of vanilla and red and black fruits (blackcurrants, raspberries and Morello cherries). Animal notes of musk and fur.

  • Palate

Full-bodied, with ageing potential, long and persistent. As the wine develops the presence of red fruits is confirmed, with a sub-structure of liquorice. Gevrey wines are noted for their strong character and intense, expressive aromas - powerful but extremely mellow.
