Les Grandes Mises, Morgon Côte du Py Reviews

Score: Gold Medal - 93 Points | June 7, 2023 | Sommeliers Choice Awards
Score: 92 | March 27, 2018 | Vinous/Antonio Galloni

Bright violet color. Ripe red berry, vanilla and floral scents show very good clarity, picking up a hint of smokiness as the wine stretches. Fresh, pliant and seamless on the palate, offering appealingly sweet black raspberry and cherry liqueur flavors and a touch of mocha. Smooth, even tannins shape the persistent finish, which leaves a hint of candied flowers behind.

(no stems) Brilliant ruby. Expansive raspberry, cherry and licorice aromas offer excellent clarity and complementary dusty mineral and violet nuances. Sharply focused and spicy on the palate, displaying very good clarity and lift to the sweet dark fruit preserve and floral pastille flavors. Shows strong intensity on the mineral-driven finish, which is framed by smooth, fine-grained tannins.

One in a series of small-batch production wines from this major producer, this comes from the top vineyard of Côte du Py. The bold tannins and strong mineral texture are typical of this vineyard. Combined with black plum and berry fruits, the wine becomes rich, dense and worthy of aging. Drink from 2019.
