Nova Vineyard Zinfandel Reviews

Score: 89 | January 13, 2015 | Wine Advocate

The 2012 Zinfandel Nova Vineyard is more of a fruity Zinfandel with notes of raspberries and cherries, not a lot of depth, but it remains superficially delicious and seductive and can be drunk over the next 1-2 years.

DeLoach continues to impress with this Lake County vineyard-designate, a well-balanced Zin with plenty of density amid its brick tar and brambly blackberry fruit. With leveled acidity along with plenty of power, it’lll both age and be pleasing to drink now, with smoky meats.

Tart and zesty, with dried cranberry and herb aromas, leading to cherry and spice flavors. Drink now through 2019. 144 cases made.

Though DeLoach's Lake County Zinfandel-- a regular in the producer's line-up of prominent wines-- is a departure of form in its big boned nature, it is entirely in keeping with its sister wines in terms of balance. Fragrant and spicy, with a depth of blackberry fruit, the finish is long and satisfying. This is a fine food-pairing with wine. - VB

Zesty and ripe, but balanced by a solid core of acidity and tannins. Aromas of dried cherry and licorice open to briary plum, toasty sage and cracked pepper flavors. For those who like them soft and jammy. - T.F.

(15.5% alcohol): Opaque ruby. Heady aromas of candied cherry and plum, with a smoky herbal overtone. Lush and open-knit, offering smooth dark fruit compote flavors that pick up a vanilla accent with air. Finishes on a warm note, with good breadth and lingering sweetness. I'd have liked a bit more vivacity but there's no denying this wine's opulence.

A sleek, focused red, with cherry and caramel aromas that follow through to balanced flavors of crisp raspberry, cola and spice. Drink now through 2017.

Editor's Choice . De Loach reaches into Lake County, not usually thought of as Zinfandel country, with tremendous results. This is a great wine by any standard. It shows some heat from high alcohol and some shriveled raisin tastes, but that’s part of a ripe Zin’s charm. Mostly, you’ll be impressed by waves of sweetly ripe cherries, chocolate and bacon, smooth tannins and a long, spicy finish.
