Meritage bottle

Lyeth was one of the first wineries in California to pursue the unique complexity and composition achieved by the marriage of Cabernet Sauvignon with the other major Bordeaux varieties, now known as the Meritage style. Lyeth became a founding member of the Meritage Association in 1988, helping to define Meritage wines. The term "Meritage" (pronounced like "heritage") is a combination of the words "merit" and "heritage". Today Lyeth continues the tradition of blending family and tradition in its wines.

The flagship wine for Lyeth Estate is Meritage, which is a blend of Bordeaux varietals including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. In this spirit of the fundamental blending premise, Winemaker Katie Carter is continuing to create an exciting blend of Bordeaux varietals from selected vineyards in the most esteemed corners of Sonoma County.

  • Nose

A brilliant garnet in color, this Meritage is rich with aromas of dark cherry, plum, and boysenberry with subtle notes of mocha and cedar completing the nose.

  • Palate

Flavors of blackberry and anise are lush and pronounced on the palate and are followed by hints of brown spice and maple. This blend of flavors exhibits a good balance between acids and tannins that ends with a very smooth finish
