Echézeaux Grand Cru

Echézeaux Grand Cru bottle

Echézeaux touches the famous vineyards of Vosne-Romanée to the south and the Vougeot appellation to the north. Echézeaux covers 93 acres of prime terroir for Pinot Noir and great Burgundies. It is one of only thirty-three Grand Crus in Burgundy, producing some of the most treasured wines in the world.

The vines higher up the slope grow in a hard limestone base which produces elegant wines. Lower down, the soil is deeper, producing wines that are more powerful.

Corseted by oak, this is a full-bore, generous wine for the vineyard, but as the black-walnut scent of oak dissipates with air, a complex and layered Vosne-Romanee begins to emerge. The fruit feels plump in the center, surrounded by oak and touches of Brett. But there's air in the tannins and the fruit, allowing some transparency, predicting the elegance this may attain with age.
  • Winemaking

Aged on the lees for 16 months with no racking using a proportion of 50% new French oak barrels that had been toasted at low temperatures for a long time to impart a very delicate touch of oak to the wine.

  • Nose

Notes of red berries underpinned by a slight touch of pepper.

  • Palate

A very fleshy wine with lovely tannic structure and a velvety finish.
